A student has 30 calendar days from the courses start date to drop the course. Within this time the course will be removed from the student’s academic transcript. After said date and until the end of the courses end and date, the course may be dropped, and a W (Withdrawal) will be listed as the courses final grade on the students’ academic record. If a course end date has passed the student may not drop the course and the course will be considered incomplete.
Full-time students wishing to no longer remain in any courses with South Florida Educational Center, a distance learning school may request to withdraw. Withdrawals must be requested using the withdrawal form. If a withdrawal request is submitted within 30 calendar days from the first course start date in the enrollment, South Florida Educational Center will retain 25% of the total tuition and any applicable fees. The actual amount of money retained upon withdrawal is dependent upon the initial down payment during enrollment.
If a withdrawal request is submitted 31 calendar days or more after the first course date in the enrollment no refund/credit is available, and any balance is owed immediately. Refunds are not available for Summer School courses and Credit Recovery courses.
If a student drops a course between 1-30 days from the earliest course start date in the enrollment, 75% of the tuition cost will be refundable and will be applied to any remaining balance due. If the student requests to drop a course 31 calendar days or more after the start date, no refund/credit is available, and any balance owed remains due. Refunds do not apply to Summer School courses and Credit Recovery courses.
Students may make changes to their courses after their enrollments have started. Changes for full-time students must be approved based on the decision and discretion of Student Services. If student choose to change the type of course their child is taking (ex. Online to textbook) or the courses being studied (ex. biology to chemistry) within the first 30 days of the enrollment period, South Florida Educational Center credits the full cost of the dropped course towards the new course. If the cost of the new course is greater, the difference in tuition is due in full at the time of the change. If the cost of the new course is less, any credit due will be applied to any remaining balance. IF a student wants to make a change in his/her coursework 31 days or more after the enrollment start date, South Florida Educational Center will apply a prorated credit towards the cost of the new course based on the time the student was enrolled. This policy does not apply to Summer school or Credit recovery courses.
Distance learning students are always strongly encouraged to plan their schedule with the goal of completing their coursework on time. However, we recognize that this does not always occur. SFEC has made extensions available dependent on the circumstances. Students should consult with their counselor or school official to be aware of how any extension could impact their graduation date. Access to coursework is not available once a completion date has passes without an extension.
SFEC allows for up to three extensions purchased for each course. Each extension is 30 days. Course extensions are $50 per course/per extension and processed from the course’s completion date, not the date of payment. There are no refunds for partially used extension periods.
Any requests for consideration of a course extension should contact student services
